Privacy Statement

This document is intended to inform the users of the web pages of "forsch!"-Student Online Journal of the Univeristy of Oldenburg (hereinafter referred to as "web pages") about the purposestypescope and legal basis of the processing of personal data in connection with the use of the web pages and thus constitutes, among other things, the information required pursuant to Article 13 of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for those affected by data processing.

For the purpose of publishing this online journal, to enable authors, reviewers, and editors to participate, and to inform interested users about news and events related to this online journal, we collect and store the following personal data from authors, editors of thematic issues, reviewers, members of the advisory board, and registered users: (1) name, (2) email address, (3) username, (4) password for log-in, (5) (on a case-by-case basis) name of the institution to which the respective person is assigned. These data are stored on a server of the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg and are accessible to the editors and the system administrator. We will not pass them on to third parties and will only use them for the purpose of publishing this journal and providing information about it.

In the course of the editorial process, further data is generated, some of which can be assigned to individuals (correspondence, etc.). These are stored for the purpose of documenting the editorial process, which is in our legitimate interest insofar as it also serves academic documentation.

The publication system (OJS) we use only uses cookies (cookies are small data packets that are stored on your computer by a website you visit) when you log in to our site as an author, reviewer, editor, registered user or similar. The cookies set in this case are necessary to allow you to participate in the editorial process of our journal, otherwise you would not be able to use the OJS publication system from your computer. No further data is collected by us through cookies.

We currently do not use any analysis software for user behavior. OJS only records how many views there are on the respective pages or articles. If you use our pages without being registered and logged in, no data is collected.

The personal data mentioned above will be stored permanently for the stated purposes.

The processing of the above-mentioned personal data is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a) GDPR through the corresponding consent of the persons concerned, which they give in the context of their participation in the online journal or through registration as a user.

If you are affected by the personal data processing within the scope of this website / online journal, you have the following rights:

  • Right to information (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Right to deletion (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • You have the right to revoke your declaration of consent under data protection law at any time. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. (Art. 7 Para. 3 GDPR)
  • If you believe that the processing of your personal data violates data protection regulations, please contact the data protection officer (see above for contact details).

Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, you are entitled to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the member state of your habitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement if you consider that the processing of personal data concerning you infringes the GDPR. 

The supervisory authority with which the complaint has been lodged shall inform the complainant on the progress and the outcome of the complaint including the possibility of a judicial remedy pursuant to Article 78 of the GDPR. 

We recommend that you contact the Controller's official data protection officer (see contact details above), who is able to act independently and will work for a prompt solution to many data protection problems.
