Author Biography

  • Mark Nichols, Open Polytechnic of New Zealand

    Mark Nichols is an education senior executive with 25 years’ experience in higher education and has international recognition as a leader in online, open, distance, and flexible learning. He is the current Executive Director of Learning Design and Development at the Open Polytechnic in Wellington, New Zealand. As of 2024, he is also the president of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). Nichols completed his PhD from the University of Otago, New Zealand, exploring the formational experience of distance education students (2014). He is also the host of the Leaders & Legends of Online Learning podcast, which includes over 80 interviews with the world's leading ODFL experts.
