About the Journal

This journal ›Beiträge zur mediävistischen Erzählforschung‹ (BmE) serves as a platform for the publication of articles which examine Medieval and Early Modern narrative in its manifestations: as a cultural technique and poetic process as well as a category for literary and cultural theoretical reflection. Covering the early Middle Ages to the 16th century, the subject matter is not limited to narrative genres per se but also includes narration in poetry and plays.
The journal therefore does not seek solely to explore narrative in the strictest sense but sees Medieval narrative research as an object-based method for a historical study of literature. While BmE is primarily a platform for German research findings, relevant papers from other Medieval philologies and from art history are also welcome. As a rule, the academic quality of the contributions is assured by a peer review procedure in which members of the advisory committee play a decisive role.
BmE publishes research articles, scholarly essays and special issues on specific topics. Unlike in the case of conventional journals, contributions are published online as soon as they have gone through the editing process, allowing us to make research results generally available very quickly (open access). All BmE publications are archived for the long term and published under a Creative Commons License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The layout of the contributions has been optimized for reading on screen as well as for print.
If you are interested in publishing in BmE, please contact the editors Anja Becker and Albrecht Hausmann (herausgeber@erzaehlforschung.de). We offer organizers of academic conferences and workshops the opportunity to publish special issues free of charge as guest editors. We look forward to your suggestions!
