Abstract

My paper focuses on the poems composed by the Nuremberg author Hans Sachs (1498–1567) that are characterized by the presence of an homodiegetic narrator. After a preliminary formal and thematic classification of the entire corpus, the use of the homodiegetic format is analysed in further detail using the example of a partial corpus, whose texts deal with the theme of the worldly love between a man and a woman, thus standing in the medieval tradition of the Minnerede. Sachs develops the construction of the homodiegetic frame, which is typical of this genre, in the form of two different basic patterns, which are also successively developed over time and which are essentially delimited by the different ontological situation of the inner diegetic (›factual‹ vs. allegorical world of experience). With regard to the homodiegetic narrator, these basic patterns correlate with his different position (as an observer or an actor) and with different functional attributions (the subject or object of teaching). In turn, they both converge at the end on to an external level in the biographical author-ego of the poet.
